What is Permanent Makeup? How long does Permanent Makeup last? How do we choose the color?

Hey beautiful!

Welcome to the Outliner Studio blog, where you'll find expert advice and insight into the world of permanent makeup. As a permanent makeup artist myself, I often get asked about what permanent makeup really is and how it works. So, let's dive in and explore what permanent makeup is, how long it lasts, and how color is selected.  So first, what is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, is a cosmetic tattooing technique that uses tiny needles to implant color pigment into the skin. This technique can be used to enhance and define your natural features, such as your eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips. Permanent makeup can also be used for medical purposes, such as reconstructing areolas after breast cancer surgery or camouflaging scars.

Okay, so how to choose your Permanent Makeup artist?  Permanent makeup doesn't have to be a DRAMATIC change, but can subtly enhance your natural features- which is the way we love it! However, in choosing your PMU artist make sure they feel the same way about style.  Style/taste/aesthetic can vary from artist to artist and making sure you love your PMU results must mean you love the permanent makeup style of your permanent makeup artist.  This means you have seen plenty of their healed results, seen it in person and liked they way it looked.

How Long Does Permanent Makeup Last?  The longevity of permanent makeup depends on various factors, such as the color used, your skin type, and your lifestyle. Typically, permanent makeup can last anywhere from 1 to 5 years, but this can vary from person to person. This can be based on the colors used, the formulation of the colors (organic vs. inorganic pigments), as well as sun exposure, pre appointment preparation, as well as aftercare (how well you can for it the first few weeks after your initial appointment).  Over time, the pigment in the skin may fade, and touch-up appointments may be necessary to maintain the desired look.  This means you will want to plan to get a "color boost" or retouch appointment every 1-3 years which on average costs anywhere from $250- $350 depending on different factors.
